The Temuka Leader SATURDAY, DECEMBER 23, 1882. CHRISTMAS.

Once more it becomes our pleasing duty to wish our readers l A Merry Christmas.' We have been in possession of this paper now a little over twelve months, and therefore this is the second occasien on which we have hail the pleasur3 of wishing our read rsthe compliments of the season Tin's is a season of all others which brings back to memory recollections of the past, but nothing should make us forget what we have to be thankful for in this beautiful land of ours—the best, without doubt, on the face »f the earth. All that is necessary to make this life enjoyable is to be found in this colony at the present time, awd the immediate future promises much better things. The richest harvest that has been seen is expected this year, and unless the weather interferes there is no doribt but our expectations will be realised. There are many other things th it give hope of immecVate by p times, such as the passing of the Timaru Harbor Loan the watering of the plains, etc., and we can see nothing in the future but the most plentiful times in this district that it lias witnessed for many years. Under these circumstances we can do nothing but congratulate our readers on the growing prosperity of the district. Great work has beeu done during the last twelve months. Its effects, bare not yet

been felt, but a few years will enable farmers to realise the value of last year's work. But this is not the time to go more minutely into such matters. The festival which we are dealing 'with is Christmas. New Year's Day is to come, and that will be the time for enteiing more fully into the events of last year. In the meantime, however, we may heartily congratulate our readers on the bright prospects the immediate future holds out to chsm, and express our hope that our expectations will be realised.
