THE DUNECHT OUTRAGE.
The In'a! of Charles Suitar, raleatcher, on the charge of removing the body of the Earl of Crawford and Balearres from the t:>mb of Dunecht, was com I tided on the 24th October, in the High Court of Justice, Edinburgh. Lord Craighill, in addressing the jury, alluded to the possible motives for this outrage either r«\enge, or 'he attempt to procure money —and said he thought more than one man must have been engaged in it, but this mattered not, as the question was whether the prisoner was guilt}'or innocent. The two main questions were, whether the vault was opened and the body removed, and, if so, whether the prisoner was concerned in it. [lis lordship then went over the leading features of the evidence, and t"ld tin; jury they must take it as a whole After an bsence of thirty-live minutes the jury brought in a unanimous verdict, of guilty against Soutar, and his lordshio sentenced him to five years' penal servitude. With Soutar's arrest and conviction the history of this strange case conies to an end, unless Sou tar's accomplices should be brought ■-^"■^, justice.,- ■■^zxA
