THE BUTTER AND CHEESE FACTORY.
Tenders are called for the erection of buildings for theTemuka Butter, Cheese and Bacon-Curing Factory, aud consequently we may expect to see the work going on before long. Mr Upton, the architect, has kindly permitted us to see the plans, and, from what we could gather, the building is to be an excellent one. It has not been decided whether it will be built in brick or concrete yet, but the plans will remain the same. It is to be a plain substantial two-storey building, the ground floor of which will be divided as follows : Chepse making room 35ft by 20ft, milk receiving room 20ft by 16ft, office 6ft by 6ft, scullery 20ft by 15ft, drying and press room 20ft by 19ft, store room 2Cft by 15ft, and and underneath the last named place will be a cellar 19ft 6 : n by 14ft 6in. The rooms are all 10ft high from floor to ceiling, and there is a lift from the drying room to the curing room up stairs, which is 41tt 6in by 38ft 3in. At the end of this is a packing and delivery room, and the height from the floor to ceiling is 9ft 6in. Communication is obtained with the second storey by means of a staircase. At the end of the building will be the boiler and engine shed. Ample provisions have been made for ventilation, there being Tobin ventilators in the wall, and Archimasdian ventilators m the roof. The interior is to be plastered in cement, the ground floor will be of concrete, the upper floor of substantial timber, and the whole is to covered with on iron roof. When finished, it will, we are assured, make one of the most compact dairy factories in Mew Zealand.
