ENGLISH AND FOREIGN. London, Dec. 16. Important disclosures have been made to the police authorities in Dublin regarding recent outrages upon detectives and others in that city. Evidence has been obtained from informers, and is of such a character as to cause the Executive to order a strict enquiry. This will be held forthwith, and some startling revelations as to the state of Dublin are anticipated, Dec. 18, A fire broke out on board the Orient steamer Cotopaxi last night while lying in Albert Dock, and had obtained such a hold upon the vessel before it was discovered that the interior is completely gutted. It is understood that Sir Charles Wentworth Dilke, the Political Secretary to the Foreign Office, will shortly enter the Cabinet, J. E. Redmond, M.P. lor New Ross, Ireland, leaves by the steamship Indus for Australia, on a mission connected with the Irish National League, The death is announced to-day of the Very Rev Francis Close, D.D., formerly Dean of Carlisle, aged 85. Berlin, Dec. 15, The German Press is at the present time much agitated over the question of the Russian frontier armament. Austria and Germany are now taking steps to renew their alliance. It is understood that the efforts of M. Giers, the Russian Minister for Foreign Affairs, on his recent visit to the Austrian and German Courts to enter into an alliance with those countries, were quite unsuccessful.

Melbourne, Dec. 19
The Melbourne manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand (Limited) reports of the local produce market as follows : Wheat, shipping, per bushel, 4s 6d to 4s Bd, market void of competition ; barley, malting, firm at 3s 7cl to 4s, New Zealand oats are sluggish ; feeding qualities, duty paid. 3s 9d ; milling do, 4s 3d ; New Zealand oats under bond are weaker, and prices range from 3s 2d to 3s 6d. New Zealand hams under bond are steady at 9|d, and New Zealand bacon at 8d per lb. Subscriptions for the relief of the widows and orphans of the miners who recently lost their lives at Creswick, now amount to £9200.
Adelaide, Dec. 19
Accounts to hand of the wheat crop are less favorable than was anticipated. In some parts of the colony the yield will only be half a bushel to the acre ; in others the crop will not be worth harvesting.
