Melbourne, Nov. 30,

Shipping wheat has advanced to 5s 7d, and is now very strong. Malting barley shows some improvement. Messrs Goldsbrough and Co. (Limited) report that they have sold 47C0 bales at their wool auction this week. Prices have been firmly maintained. Greasy wools have brought from 7d to 13d, and washed from IGd to 21|d, according to quality and condition. A good attendance of Home and foreign buyers continues, aui very brisk competition has been experienced.

The Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report having catalogued BGOO hales at their wool sales this week. Of this quantity 2400 have been sold. Them has been a good attendance of buyers and brisk competition, although no specially good lots have been offered. In sympathy with the London market lower classes of wool are easier. Sydney, Nov. 30. The election of four members for the East Sydney constituency took place tv-day, and resulted in the return of Messrs Reid, Borton, Griffiths and McElhone. Sir H. Parkes acd Dr Renwick were defeated. Great excitement prevails in the city to-night.

EGYPTIAN AFFAIRS

London, Nov. 28

In the House of Commons last night Mr Gladstone iatroduced the Supplementary Estimates of expenditure in Egypt up to October last, amounting to £1,060,000. The Premier announced that all cosi arising from the British occupation after that date will be borne entirely by Egypt. The total cost of the Egyptian campaign to England and India will amount to four and a half millions sterling.

The Soudan Prophet is reported to have lost 20,000 followers since the rebellion commenced. The Tories refrain from criticising the state of affairs in Egypt. Cairo, Nov. 28.

Earl Dufferin has had under consideration the evidence taken by the Commission of Enquiry, and has advised that the charge against Arabi in connection with the massacres at Alexandria and other places, and the burning of that city should not be brought forward at his (rial.
