Without Precedent. —A novel expedient for imparting tranquility to an agitated theatrical audience was, it is said by the Era, recently adopted by Mr Jack Harris, the lessee and manager of the Thalia Theatre, of San Antonia, Texas, United States. It would appear that one evening recently, the audi torium being crowded at the time, some disturbance arose between the acts of the piece 'in representation, and, far from subsiding when the curtain was drawn up, increased in boistcrousness to such an extent that the actors unable to make themselves hear I, quittcd_tbe stage. Upon this Mr Harris came on and advanced to the footlights, holding in each hand a weapon of the class known through out the Union by the name of ‘ navy revolver.’ As he stood there bowing and smiling, ob viously animated by a desire to address the audience, a slight lull in the storm set in, of which he took advantage to apprise his 1 friends and patrons,’ with exquisite suavity of manner, that, if order were not restored in all parts of the house within two minutes) he should ‘ just shoot round anyhow.’ Perfect peace, amounting in fact to breathless and terror-stricken silence, having resulted from the good natured warning, Mr Harris gracefully retired, and the performance was resumed witheut further delay. 1

Young Austka.lia..— Under the head of “Town Talk” in the Argus, appears the following:—There is a certain adjectire used by old women of humble rank with reference to bad boys which always tickled me ; it is the word “ owdacions,” and approaches more nearly to the American term “ enssedness” than anything in our language. The two most “owdacions” boys I ever heard of lire at Middlesborough, where they are now in gaol. Thomas Moore and Joseph Webster, being each of the age of 15, waylay a seaman a mile or two from the town, and presenting loaded pistols to his head, secure his money. Then Moore says to his young friend, “ Shall we do away with him P” to which the other answers, “ Please yourself.” As it struck the sailor, from the expression in Moore’s face, that if it came to “ pleasure ” his life was gone, he reserted to artifice. lie said he had £7O on board his ship, which lie was prepared to share with them. To which Moore replied, “ All right ; I will go with you to your ship ; I shall not flinch one inch, and if yon don’t giro mo the money I’ll shoot you in the forecastle.” They walked into the town together, Moore always keeping his pistol in his pocket, with his linger on the trigger, quite close to tho sailor, whenever they met policemen ; and it was with great difficulty he was secured. If that was not “ owdacions ” I don’t know what
