NEW RAILWAY RATES.
The New Zealand Gazette of November 13th contains some alterations in the passenger and traffic rates. The ordinary passenger rates remain ns heretofoie, a few new classes of • tickets being added. Tickets available for one year over the whole of the New Zealand railways can be obtained for £SO. Tickets available for one quarter will be issued to school teachers, to enable them to attend Saturday training classes, for 20s per quarter Privilege tickets will be issued to railway officers and employes or their wives at onefourth the ordinary rates. Tickets will be issued to volunteers in uniform, without charge, upon production of a written order from the officer commanding the district. An important alteration is made in the rates for the carriage of agricultural produce. While the rates remain tl e same for agricultural produce generally, the class is divided, and reduced rates scheduled for wheat, oats, and barley 7 . For distances up to ten miies the rates for these three cereals remain as before, a reduction then commencing in their f»vor, old and new rates per ton for the distance given being as follows 20 miles, Os—4s 4d ; 30 miles, 7s 8d —5s 2d ; 40 miles, 9s 4d—6s ; 50 miles, 11s—0s 10d ; GO miles, lls lid—7s 8d ;70 miles, 12s lOd— 8s 6d ;SO miles, 13s Bd—9s 4d ; 90 miles, 14s Gd—los 2d ; 100 miles, 15s 4d—lls ; llOmilos, 16s 2d—lls lOd ; 120 miles, 17a—12s 8d ; 150 miles, 19s 6d—lss 2d. For the distance from Timaru to Lyttelton, 10G miles, the old rate was 15s 10d per ton ; the new rate is Us Gd per ton. Albury to Timaru 29 miles, old rate, 7s Gd ; new rate, os Id ;
