TIMAIMJ MARKETS.
Messrs Maclean and Stewart report for the week ending Saturday as follows ; Horses—Their entry to-day of 75 head included a ■. considerable number of draughts of a better class than has been offering at their Saturday’s sales for some time back, but there was no improvement in prices, and competition throughout the day was languid and sales difficult to effect. The teams belonging to Messrs O’Brien. Sibly and Stratford were made up of first-class geldings and mares, but only a few of them found purchasers ; a gelding belonging to the latter fetched £42, and others at quotatiens below. In light horses there was a fair competition for medium hacks, but the supply of this class is unlimited and owners generally form too high'an estimate of their value. A pair of young carriage horses, the property of Mr M. Wightman, were competed for, but not reaching owners’ value were passed in. They quote good draughts, £33 to £42 ; medium. £22 to £3O ; light harness horses and hacks, medium to good. £l2 to £2l ; inferior to ordinary £5 to £lO. Cattle —The demand for store cattle is not hitherto marked by that improvement which they anticipated would result after the late rains, but as feed is now coming on rapidly prospects are brightening for this class'of stock, 'more especially two and throe-year old steers, for which they have enquiries. At Winchester Fair on the 16th iust., the entry was under the average, the attendance of buyers limited, and consequently but little business effected. They sold a small line of mixed stores at £2 2s 6d per head. They sold privately during the week 15 head fat cattle at equal to 25s per IOOIbs. Sheep—They have no transactions to report, prices being the same as last reported. Skins—At their usual fortnightly sale on Wednesday last, they submitted a
small cat al< gue, t very line being cleared at fully late rates. Butchers’ cross-breds realised realised from 5s lOd, Gs 4d tn 6s lid ; medium cross breds, 4s to 5s 3d ; merinos, 5s lo 5s Cd ; lambskins, Is 4d.
SYDNEY MARKETS. The Sydney Town and Country Journal of Nov. 4th reports as follows Wheat—The wheat market has been dull during the week. Although few holders ask a shade more than our quotations, we do not think sales could be effected for even moderate parcels at tiiese rates :—Adelaide wheat, 6s 3dJ; New South Wales, 6s to 6s 3d ; Victorian, 5s 9d ; Californian. 5s 9d to 6s ; Launceston, 4s lOd to 5s 9d ; New Zealand, 4s Gd to 5s per bushel.
Flout—The flour market is overstocked with low qualities of cheap flour, which holders cannot quit at any price, Good brands are easier, and we believe our quotations would be accepted for any. Sydne3 r mill flour, superfine, sells at £ls ; household, £l4 ; seconds, £l3 ; New South Wales country brands, £l4 10s to £ls per ton ; Victorian flour, £l4 to £ls; Adelaide, £l4 10s to £ls; Californian, £l2 10s to £l3 10s ;'New Zealand, £ll 10s to £l2 10s per ton.
