The Overseer was instructed to procure a copy of the Acts passed during last session of Parliament. overseer’s report. The Overseer’s report was read and considered. It was as follows :

‘ Sir, —I Rave invited tenders for the various works ordered to be done, and replied to the correspondence of last meeting as directed. With reference to the application made by Mr Hullen at the last meeting of the Board for the formation of road from Mr Ray’s house to section 14633, I would beg to suggest that a triangular piece of land, measuring three quarters of a chain along the north western and one chain along tha south western boundary of section 10390, be purchased from Mr Ray, if possible. That the said piece of land be excavated so as to widen the upper part of the cutting, the day, etc., so taken out, to be tipped over the edge of the side cutting from the said excavation to the foot of the terrace. The amount of land required as above would be about 6 perches, which at the rate of £2O per acre would amount to 15s. I would also suggest that in the creek at the foot of the terrace the present ford be filled up, a fresh cutting be made on the north side, and two rows of 18in pipes put in for a width of 30ft, leaving the remainder of the cutting an open drain. The remaining part of the road only requires ordinary formation. The probable cost of the whole work would be about £.

c I have examined the South road from the Orari Hotel to the river as directed, and would recommend that a Gin pipe culvert be put across the road in or near the hollow between the embankment which crosses the road and'the river, and a small open drain running along near the base of the embankment and emptying into the river. Should the Board decide to do the work as suggested it would be necessary to obtain the consent of the Board of Conservators. The above is the only work that I see is required to be done at present, as I have had the creek from the concrete culvert through Mr Wadsworth’s cleaned out, as also the roadside ditches as far as necessary. I have invited tenders for filling the hole scoured out at the Orari ford on the Sooth Road with shingle and a facing up stream of the largest boulders available, and although being far from satisfied of the permanent na tnre of the work unless well protected, it appeared to me to be the only work that could be done to be of present benefit, and within the cost sanctioned by the Board.—i have the honor, ete., ‘ Thos. S. Lewis, O.E.’ Resolved— c That the Board will do the work required at Ray’s cutting on receiving permission from Mr Ray to cut into his land as much as required.’ Resolved — £ That tenders be called for as much of the formation as the Surveyor deems requisite.” ■ The work of improving the south road

from tilt; Urari Hofei to the I’iver was deferred fur the present 1 It was resolved ‘That lenders be called for shingling the road through McDonalds property, north Ornri.’ THE SMALL BIRDS NUISANCE. The Chairman brought before the Board the small birds question, and wished to know whether the Board would do anything in the matter. By the amendment passed in the Small Birds Nuisance Act, last session, the Board was empowered to spend a certain amount for that purpose. All present thought a great deal of good had been done last year in this way, and the Board decided to appoint Mr Bolton to receive the young birds and eggs ; to offer 3d per dozen for the young birds, and 1-l-d per dozen for the eggs Mr Bolton was authorised to announce the same in the Tbmuna Leader. The district wherein the birds and eggs are to be collected to be within "the Temnka Road Board boundaries. The Chairman was authorised to write to the adjacent Road Boards, asking fur their co-operation in the matter. THE RATES, The Overseer reported that the rates were coming unsatisfactorily. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £304 15s were passed for payment.
