The report ou the New South Wales railways shows the total amount expended on tbeir construction since their commencement to have nearly reached £15,000,000 (sic.)
Melbourne, Nov. 9. A robbery was committed at the General Post-office during last niglit. A mail bag containing registered letters and packets—the value of which is as yet unknown—was stolen, and no clue has yet been discovered to the indentification of the thieves. Adelaide, Nov. 7. The Hon Ivo Bligh has met with an accident and severely lacerated one of his hands, fie will be unable to play in the cricket matches which have been j arranged for his team for some time to come. EGYPTIAN AFFAIRS. London, Nov, 5, It is rumored that Arabi is to be tried at Cyprus. Nov. 6. The Soudan prophet has repulsed an attack made on him at Abugard, and is now reported to be advancing on Khartoum. Alexandria, Nov. I. Legal proceedings in connection with the trial of Arabi and other rebel officers, are being pushed forward by Commission, but the preparation of a mass of evidence which has been taken has caused delay in the announcement of the trial. English counsel have been retained to coinduct the prosecution, Nor, 5. Preparations for the despatch of an expedition to the Soudan to subdue the Arabs who have taken up arms under the false prophet, are progressing rapidly, a considerable body of troops being organised. A large number of officers who fought under Arabi, and were subsequently arrested, are enlisting.
