TIMAEU MARKETS

Messrs Maclean and Stewart report for the past week &s follows : Horses.—43 draughts and hackneys were on Saturday received at. their }-ards for sale. Among the former were a few good useful sorts, for which there was spiiited competition ; but >vith this exception the demand was decidedly dull, only 15 head having changed hands at from £22 to £33 for medium to good draughts, and for ordinary £ls to £2O ; hacks, from £l2 to £ls for medium, and for inferior from £5 10s. Cattle.—At Winchester Fair on the 2nd instant, there was a large entry of stores, and a few head of fat. The demand foi stores was remarkably quiet, and where sales were effected owners had to submit to small values, buyers not geeling inclined to operate on account of the bad prospects of feed at the time ; but the much desired change in the weather which set in on Friday will doubtless give an impetus to stock business generally, and bptter prices than those ruiing lately may be looked for now. They sold yearlings at from 29s to 33s ; cows, from £2 10s to £5 2s Gd. They sold two pens of fat cattle privately. On Saturday they sold privately 95 head mixed cattle at a satisfactory price. Sheep.—They have no sales of importance to note. At Winchester they offered seveval lots, but only disposed of a small lot of shorn cross-breds at 8s 9d. Wool any Skins.—At their fortnightly sale on Wednesday, they catalogued about 1200 skins, and a few bales and bogs of wool, all of which were disposed of at prices a shade easier than late rates. Messrs Robert Wilkin aud Co. report : At the Addiogton yards on Wednesday, 84GG sheep, 710 head of cattle, and 160 pigs, came forward. The supply of both fat sheep and cattle was in excess fo the requirements of the trade, and in consequence there was a further drop in prices compared with, iate s vies. For store sheep there was a good demaud, more especially for cross-bred ewes with lambs at foot. We held on Thursday, our weeklj' sale of sheepskins, at which there was a large attendance of buyers.
