The half-yearly statement of the Bank of New South Wales was publiched today. The Directors in their report estimate the net profits for the period at £BB,OOO, and recommend the payment of a dividend and bonus amounting to 17-J- per cent,

In the Legislative Assembly last night the Hon James Watson introduced his Financial Statement, After referring to the increasing prosperity of the colony, he stated that the revenua for the past year amounted to £7,160,914, and that there was a surplus of £1,827,695. The estimated revenue for next year was -£7,356,299, with a credit balance of £580,351. Government proposed to remit a number of specific duties on household requisites, and builders' and manufacturers' material. Further railway construction to the extent of 710 miles will be proposed, besides various extensions of the tramway system. It will not be necessary, as was supposed, to float another loan next year. The Treasurer concluded by stating that the revenue for 1882-83 will probably reach £8,000,000. The debate in the Legislative Assembly on the Colonial Treasurer's Financial Statement, has pcen postponed for a week. Brisbane, Nov. 2. The Legislative Assembly has passed a vote of £70,000 for defence purposes. The estimate includes the purchase of two gun boats. Melbourne, Nov. 2. Malting barley is firm at os 2d to 5a 4d ; wheat is weak at 5s Id ; New Zealand oats are quiet at 4s 2d to 4s 4d for foed, and 4s 4d to 4s 6d for milling. Messrs Goldsborough and Co, limited, during the recent wool auctions hare sold 5317 bales out of 7177 catalogued. There has been a larga attendance of buyers, and brisk competition throughout. The Rev. Father Leek, the newlyappointed Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland, is a passenger for New Zealand by the steamer Wairarapa, which left here yesterday for the Bluff.
