_ The debate on the Premier's resolution for reform of procedure is ptill proceeding in the House of Commons, numerous amendments being proposed by Conservative members in the rules for the adoption of cloture, and various speakers have urged some mitigation of the stringency of the proposed rules.

Tiie French Minister of Justice, in applying to change of venue in the trial of Socialist strikers, declared that he holds threads of evidence of a vast revolutionary organisation which is now permeating France. The statement has caused much excitement throughout the country.

Owing to a recent statement of the Minister of Justice, that Government possessed evidence of a widespread revolutionary organisation now permeating France, much aiarm has been created throughout the country. At Lyons a panic lias arisen through fear that a socialist rising there is imminent. Great excitement prevails in the town, and troops to reinforce the garrison have been sent. All public buildings are now guarded by strong detachments of troops. Oct. 28. Bey Sidi Mahormned el Sadock, of Tunis, died yes tar] ay, aged ' 60. His brother, Sidi Ali, has succeeded to the throne. Colombo, Oct. 26. A Court of Enquiry has been held here into the collision which took place between the P. and 0. steamer Peshawur and the barque Gienroy. The finding was that the barque was to blame, and the Captain's certificate has been suspended for six mouths.

The Bishops of Australia and Tasmania have finally selected till Eight l(o vc re rid Dr Parry, Bishop Suffragan of Dover, for the vacant see of Sydney and the Primacy of Australasia.

The steam collier Woniora, 226 tons, owned by the Bulli Coal Mining Company, while on a voyage froai Bulli to Sydney, coal laden, foundered last night off Botauy Heads. The officers and erefr, to the number of 13, including the captain, were drowned, one seaman only being saved.

EGYPTIAN AFFAIRS

London, Oct. 26

The British Government has intimated that it is prepared to receive tenders for a supply of Australian frozen meat for the army.

In both Houses of Parliament to-day a vote of thanks to the army engaged faigypt was passed without opposition. In the course of the deb, te which took place in the House of Commnus, Mr Gladstone warmly eulogised the conduct of the officers and men of the British, and Indian forces during the campaign. The Premier announced that the Government would shortly propose that annuities should be granted *o Sir Garnet Wolseley anel Sir Beauchamp Seymour for their services.

In the House of Lords to-day Lord Granville, the Foreign Secretary, in reply to a question, declined to make any statement at the present time as to the intention of Government in regard to the final settlement of affairs in E.ypt.
