Retting at the start ruled at 6 to -1 on Rurk O’Conn r wo 1 the inside p'aej but Rurk got away the quickest, and took a lead of five yards, which he increas'd in the first lap to 20. In the second lap. O’Connor gradualy drew up, and passing the stand, passed Rnrk. In the third lap, O’Connor went steadily ahead, a d on again passing the stand was in turn twenty yards in front. Still Rurk’s supporters felt no qinlms, bearing in mnd tne previous contest, nor did they think their man out of it, though in (lie fourth lap, O’Connor increased his lead to -10 yard . In the next round Rnrk was expected to make up his leeway, but though he mace a determined effort, he could not get map O’Connor, who, after looking round occasionally, put on a tremendous spurt, and wou right out by fully 40 yards.
