A WARNING TO LARRIKINS.

One evening not long ago a detach-

ment of young Ashburtonians were apprised of the fact that during the day a happy couple had been united at the “ hymeneal altar and, as a matter of course, the-young larrikins felt called upon to tender their congratulations and best wishes in their old-fashioned, but annoying, tin-kettiing method. We have heard that, under similar circumstances'', nn irate bridegroom and his male friends met the serenaders with sundry buckets of water, accompanied with expletives not often heard in polite circles . . Not so, however, on the festive occasion that took jplace in Ashburton recently. The lads were welcomed with kind words and better still, as they in their innocence thought, were each regaled with plenty of cake and a glass of boor, after which, with profuse (hanks, and voting the bridegroom a jolly good fallow, they retired ;o their ban as. 13nt not one of that tin-kettiing parly slept a wink that night, and. whettier it was tne beer or the cake tiiat did not agree with them they did not know. Rut ore of the la is guessed he lul l been the victim of a cruel joke, and that the beer contained a certain pronerty which lias a far more powerful cfleet on the system that a box of Holloway’s pills cr numerous spoonslnl of brimstone and treacle of Dolhchoy’s Hall strength.—Moral— Coys, never go tin-keitling, hut if the

temptation is not to be resisted get a guarantee . that the beer is perfectly pure snd unadulterated.— Ashburton Guardian.
