LEGISLATIVE : COUNCIL; Monday's Sitting. Sir G. S. Whitmore moved that the Council insist on the amendments made in the Land Bill. Carried. Messrs Bonar, Johnstone, and Ollivier, were appointed to draw up reasons for disagreeing with amendments in the District Railways Bill. i7ir Gr. S. Whitmore said another Conference of Members of both Houses would sit next day on the Laud Bil'. A great many Bills.were passed. HOUSE OF'REPRESENTATIYES. Tlie"Oamaru Harbor" Board Bill was read a third time and passed. The Hon Mr Rolleston reported that the conference between members of both Houses re Land Bill had disagreed. The clause they disagreed upon was the clause providing that the leasehold might be changed into a freehold. Neither party - would give in ©n ''that point, and the clause would therefore, only refer to goldfields and Education reserves. The clause would aot'be altogether cut out of the. Bill, bv.t it would not come I into operation > until Parliament bad t'mc to deal witb it. He hoped there would be a socond conference held on the subject, but any further overture should come from Council. Amendment* in the Municipal Corporations Act made in the Upper House were disagreed with, and membere appointed for a conference witb the Upper House on the- subject. Mr Bracken moved to exclude improvements and buildings under, the value of £SOO from the operation of the Property Tax-but it was ruled but of order. The Property Tax Bill was then passed. A conference was appointed re the Council's amendment in the District Railways Bill, LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. Tuesday's Sitting." , •",•.:• The Property Tax, Licensing, Education, and " Appropriation Bills were all passed. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. The removal of the Native Lands Court from Auckland to Wellington came up again. Mr Sheehan moved that the House views with disfavor the removal of it to Wellington, but subsequently withdrew it. The Court is to be removed. Major Atkinson said in reply to Sir John Hall that railway works undertaken this y«Ar "would render land in their vicinity liable to special rating, provided Parliament agreed to a special rate naxt session. Messrs Dargaville, Connolly, Hursthouse, and others deprecated the special rating unless it referred to lands which had been benefitted by the construction of railways in the past. The conference on the Land Bill agreed that the purchasing clause should not apply to goldfields but to all other leased lands. The Bill was then agreed to, The Appropriation Act, the. Law Practitioners "Bill ' and the District Railways Bill'--were.agreed to, and ■'■ the House rose at 5 p.m. Wkknesday's Sitting.
