REMARKABLE CAPTURE OF AUSTRALIAN THIEVES.
I A roirarkable capture was made by a member of the Manchester Detective Police in that city on June 26. Shortly after one o'clock his attention was called to a man and a woman who were loitering about in one of the principal streets in a manner which raised his suspicions. The officer watched them, and having ascertained that they had been endeavoring to negotiate the exchange of s large quantity of bank notes at a neighboring money-changer's, he took them into custody and conveyed them to the Town Hall. The man there gave the name of Charles Dunn, and the woman that of Mary Hvw<ird. When asked to produce whatever they had in their possession they handed over Bank of England notes to the value of £955, together with about £212 in gold and silver. Tke notes were ail stamped ''Messrs Hands and Co, money-changers, 16 Strand, WC." There was also in the prisoner's possession a large number of legal documents, which were evidently of great value. Enquiries were instituted by telegraph at Scotland Yard and also in Dublin, and it was ascertained that the man's real name was Isaac Ogle, and that the London detectives held a warrant for his apprehension on o charge of stealing a large sum of money and a quantity of legal documents from his late employer, Mr. Joseph Gibhs Duffet. solicitor, Melbourne, and representing property worth iu'iny thousands of pounds. The male prisoner is a passed solicitor, holding a Melbcurne certificate, and was formerly in the service of Mr Duffet. The woman, whose name 's Brady, is sister-in-law to Ogle, and supposed to be in the theatrical profession. Both prisoners were transferred to the London police.
