MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Board was held in the Road' Board Office, Peel Forest, on Friday, the 18th inst. Present— Mesira C. Gr. Tripp, J. Heuey, JR, Mackay, and G. J. Dennistoun. ;
In the absence of the Chairman, Mr 0. G-. Tripp \ra> elected Chairman.
Tenders for the following works were opened and considered:— No 12 contract, fencing the cutting in the Rangitata terrace—James Proud - foot, £l7 15s ; William Scully, £l6 (accepted.)
No 13, blinding Cartwright’s road Stephen Courtney, £10*) j; .*; Robert Cartwright, £67 10s ; Partrick Burke, £6O ; Michael Lynch, £59 ; Daniel Gnldan, £SO (accepted). No 14, shingling on Mount Pv.el road—Patrick Burke, £35 ,' Stephen Courtney, £35 ; Timothy Sugrue, £88; Joseph Wharton, £26 13s 4d; Michael O’Connor, £2O (accepted). ■ ... The following correspondence was read and considered , i Prom Mr W. Postlethwaite,M.H.R„ in reference to the Oxford-Tcrauka railway to Peel Forest, and enclosing a letter from the Public Works Department relative to the matter, stating that the Government, after caraful consideration, does not see its way to make the necessary extension recommended. From Mr T. Fd wards, offering to sell a line of road, if required, through section 27300 at the rate of £2 per acre, Resolved—“ That the offer be accepted sheuld the Board require it.” Resolved made to reserve a small piece of land adjoining section 22889, on the Opuha river, for road purposes. ’ The Clerk was directed to write to Mr Merchant asking if he would meet the Board’s overseer and report upon the site of the proposed bridge over the Opuha river near Robbs’ Hut, Also to write to the Chief Surveyor, asking what is the object of the road lino laid off in section 30291, as it is not connected with any ether road, aud state that the owner of the section has made application for a road onto the land, as the only road at present touching the section is about two chains at ore corner, which is on the top of a precipice and quite useless for any practicable _ purpose. Mr M. Lynch had an interview with , *he Board in reference to carrying OUj
his contract of metalling the Mount Michael road, offering to complete the work for a certain sum in addition to the contract price price, as, owing to the quarry from which the metal was to have been taken being closed the contract could not he carried out at the contract price.
Resolved — <l That the offer be accepted, upon condition that the work be proceeded with at once.”
Resolved—“ That notice be given to land-owners to grub up gorse from the roads adjoining their lands ; also that public notice be given that unless all gorse or broom is cleared off the roads before the Ist October next, the Board will do the work at the expense of owners of the adjoining land.” . Resolved —“ That tenders be called for the following works : —(1) Forming the road through Allandale ; (2) Metalling the Spur road, Raincliff (in three contracts) ; (3) Forming the cross road at Sherwood Downs.” Accounts to the amount of £320 15s 4d wore passed for payment, and the Board then adjourned.
