ENGLISH AND FOREIGN^ London, August 1. In the House of Loi’ds to-day the Arrears of Rent in Ireland Bill came up for consideration in Committee. Two vital amendments to the measure were proposed by the Marquis of Salisbury, and after a debate were agreed to by the House. The chief amendment applies to questions of settlement, which'are to bo non-valid unless the landlord is a consent ing party. The House of Lords persisting in their amendments on the Irish Arrears Bill, it will be dropped for the present session. Parliament will be immediately prorogued and afresh session held, when the Bill will be again introduced. „ The Ladies Land League in Ireland will shortly be dissolved. ParnelL and Dillon are organis’ng a new constitutional League. The Irish police are agitating for increased pay. The returns show the harvest to be con* sidorably below the average. The American yield is very large. Colonial breadstuffs continue quiet and unchanged in price. Australian beef tallow has declined (6d) to 445; beet mutton remains at 45s 6d. The stocks in London today is‘ 13.130 casks. r ’ The accounts of the English wheat crops are now more favorable, as finer weather prevails. Reports to hand from America state th t the crop in that country is expected to be considerably above the average. Aug. 2.A portion of the cargo, which : con, sists of 4400 carcases of mutton and a quantity of beef, ex the s.s. Lusitania, was sold by auction today. The mutton realised an average of 6£d per lb.
