FLOODS IN OTAGO.

A Punedin telegram dated 31st July states the damage by rains in the immediate neighborhood of Dunedin is slight. On the flat several houses are under water, and one is severely damaged by a landslip. 4 serious landslip at Chain Hills tunnel detained the trains fully four hours. At Puketoi on the northern line a serious landslip, which will be cleared to-day, has taken place between Clarkesville and Milton. A good deal of damage has been clone to the line. The Lawrence branch suffered a good deal. The passengers had to leave the train at Johnstone and proceed to Waitahuna, where hotel accommodation was provided. Further particulars state that the train did not reach town till Sunday morning. The Taieri rivet has overflowed its banks. The plain is an immense lake.
