MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Board was held in the Road Board Office, Peel Forest, on Friday, the 21st inst. TENDERS. No 9, fencing near Fairlie Creek— Maurice Lawlor, £3115s (accepted.) No 10, planting reserve near Fairlie Creek Michael Fitzgerald, £255 (accepted.) No 11, shingling boundary road— Patrick Burke, £l3O (accepted.) THE HAEBOE BOAKD LOAN AND BILL. Resolved—“ That this Board decline to co-operate in any way until it is settled whether any and what alterations will be made in the constitution of the Harbor Board.” Resolved —“That this Board objects to the representation of the district as proposed by the member for Gladstone, but supports the proposals of the Geraldine County Council, as follows That the Borough of Timaru should be represented by two members; the Levels Road District by two ; the Tamuka, Geraldine, Mount Cook and Mount Peel by one member each ; the County of Waimate by two members ; and the Borough of Waimate by one member, making a total of eleven members.” Resolved —“That in the opinion of this Board the qualification of a county elector should be a sufficient qualification for election to the Timaru Harbor Board ” Resolved —“That this Board is of opinion that clause eight should be amended by striking out that portion which limits the voting power to one vote, and the County Council qualification be used.” The Clerk was directed to forward a copy of the above resolutions to the Colonial Secretary and to the Members for South Canterbury. MISCELLANEOUS. Resolved—“ That in order that the subsidy paid by Government in aid of

rates, half of which subsidy being pa|d fco tho County Council will Bpable them to carry on charitable institutions without the necessity of imposing a general rate for that purpose over the whole county, a general rate of sixpence in the pound be struck in the Mount Peel road district, and that the Clerk prepare the rate book and take the necessary steps for carrying out the above resolution.” Resolved- “ That the Clerk write to the member for this district, and also to the member for Geraldine,, urging that a portion of the proposed three million loan be set aside for extending the Temuka and Oxford line of railway from Temuka to Peel Forest, the Government having already erected an expensive bridge at Temuka as the commencement of the line at Temuka.” Resolved—“ That the Clerk write to Mr R. Thew calling his attention to the damage done on the road leading up the Orari Gorge by his pigs, and request him to fill up all rootings, and repair all damage done to the road and to keep the pigs from doing any further damage.” Resolved— ‘‘ That the Clerk write to the owners of sections 29984 and 27300 askupon what conditions they will allow a road line to be taken through these sec tions to the site of the proposed bridge over the Opuha river near Robb's but.” Mr Thew made application _to be allowed to cart stones out of his paddock and place them on tho road reserve adjoining. Resolved—“ That permission be granted upon condition that the stones be properly stacked according to the Overseer’s direction.” NEW WOUKS. Resolved —“ That tenders be called for fencing the side of the cutting in the Ilangitata terrace ; for blinding Cartwright’s road on Opuha river-bed, and for shingling part of the Mount Peel road. The Overseer to make arrangements, if possible, for planting part of the reserve at the Raincliff middle fence with a variety of gums.’’ ACCOUNTS. After passing accounts to the amount of £460 Os 9d, the Board adjourned.
