TIMARU HARBOR BOARD.
At the meeting of the above Board, held last Thursday, the principal subject for discussion was the Bill now before Parliament.
A telegram from Air Sutter was read stating that Air Steward was bringing pressure to hear on the Government to amend the proclamation so as to sxclnda the Waiho and Hakateramea Ridings of the Waimate County from the Harbor district, and a resolution from the Waimate County Council affirming that the two ridings above mentioned should be included.
It was resolved— “ That the Board recommend that the boundaries and description of the Timaru Harbor District as now gazetted be adhered te, and as recommended by the County Council of Waimate.”
After a long discussion, in which the undue proportion of representation given to Timaru was condemned, the following resolution on the motion, proposed by Air ! Aloody and seconded by Air Gray, was carried—“ That the constitution of the Board, as recommended by the Levels Road Board be adopted (with slighc modification) as the most desirable. Any ratepayer to be eligible to represent any district ; and that the members be advised to this effect. The proposed representation being as follows : —Timaru Borough, 3 members; Levels and Temuka road districts, 2 each ; Waimate County, north part 1, south part, 1; Geraldine, Mount Peel, and Mount Cook districts, 1 member each ; total, 12. And that the Board be elected on the same principle as County Councils.” On the recommendation of the Tugboat Committee, it was resolved to purchase the steam tng Titan, an iron paddle boat of 50 horse-power, at a cost of £3250. It was resolved to put the electric-light machine in order, as suggested by the Engineer. Several suggestions made by the Harbor Alaster were adopted, and £lO each per annum was agreed to be given to the life-boat crew. Objection w >s raised with regard to the account of the undertaker who had buried those drowned in the late shipping disaster. It amounted to £99 12s, and was referred back for reduction. After doing a lot of other work the Board adjourned.
