Electiuc Light. —There is an electric light mania starting up. Since the proposal to form a company in Wellington to light the whole colony, several towns have had t-heir meetings and steps taken to forni elect; ic light companies. While this has been going on Messrs EosS and Grlendenhihg have gone to work in a more prado-al manner. Their woollen mills at Eoslyn have been successfully lighted by electricity. There are nine lamps in the main building and one in the ’finishing room, and it is proposed to light the smaller rooms with Swan’s incandescent lamps. The lamps used are the “ Joel,” and J,he pqwer if supplied by one of Sicilian’s D machines, driven from the main; shaft. Five horsepower is required for the ten lainps, and the machine is driven at the rate of 820 revolutions a minute. The light has no glare,’ is steady and mild, and casts no deep shadows* An estimate of its costs shows this ,to, he lew than one-seventh that of gas. at' the . cjirrent rate in Dunedin, and it is calculated that,, the saving effected will, in six mouths, pay 'the entire cost of the plant.^
