ENGLISH AND FOREIGN. London, June 17 : At today's wool auction a firm market was again experienced. 7000 bales were catalogued. The police today effected the seizure at Clerkenwell of a large quantity of arms, which were known to have been intended for shipment to Ireland, June 18. The police have arrested an Irishman who was found under suspicious circumstances on the spot where the seizure of arms was made at Clerkenwell on Saturday last. June 19. A firm and active demand was experienced at today's wool sale. The catalogue comprised 9200 bales. A portion of the steamship Cuzco's cargo of frozen mutton ws placed in the market tcday. It was in fair condition and averaged per lb. Adelaide and New Zealand wheat, ex store, is quoted at 51s and 50s respectively, but to effect sales lower prices must be accepted. The market for Australian tallow is firn?, best beef being worth 43s 6d, and best mutton 455„ It has transpired that the Government have issued instructions to the officers commanding troops in Ireland to take the necessary precautionary measures against a rising, which it is believed is threatened. Melbourne, June 20. The Legislative Assembly met again today, after the adjournment. During the proceedings of the day Mr Francis rose to move his amendment regarding the remissions of taxation proposed by the Government. The Speaker, however, ruled that the motion was out of order, and it was thereupon withdrawn. Mr Francis has expressed his intention ot bringing his motion again belore the House of Committee of Ways and Means. • Adelaide, June 20. It is expected that some of the largest flour mills in this colony will be shortly completely stopped for want of wheat. Farmers, it is stated, hold large stocks, but are unwilling to sell at present prices, and it is understood that wheat is being shipped from California to Adelaide.
