MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Board was held in the Road Board Office, Peel Forest, on the 16th inst. PRESENT. The Hon J. B. A. Acland (Chairman), Messrs B. Mackay, C. G. Tripp, and J. Heney. MINUTES, The minutes of the previous meeting were redd and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read and considered : From the Chief Surveyor, Christchurch, in reference to refund for land taken for a road through sections 22691 and 18804 in Peel Forest. The Clerk was instructed to arrange with the owners as suggested by the Chief Surveyor, From the Mount Cook .Road Board, acknowledging the receipt of the Board's letter re survey of Mr Harley's road. From the Geraldine Boad Board, returning the account for half cost of the work done on the Rangitata Station road, and hoping that the matter might be settled without law proceedings. Resolved—" That the account be re turned to the (geraldine Board, and they be informed that the Mount Peel Board will adhere to their resolution disclaiming any responsibility for work done on the road." From the Geraldine County Council, in reference to the registering of dogs, stating that the Registrar has received instructions to employ what assistance he may require. From Mr C. R. Shaw, returning the plans of road diversion in the Orari Gorge. From Messrs Clark and McMaster, calling attention to the crossing of the Opuha river near Robb's hut, and urging the necessity of building a bridge for crossing stock.
The Overseer was instructed to inspect the crossing, and to report at next meeting. From Messrs J. and S. Wilson, making application for forming the ro i i between sections 19945 and 19947 ; also, for improving the. 'Mount Michael Valley road. Resolved—'' That tenders bo called for forming the road, vviien the weather is favorable, and that the Overseer consult Mr J. Wilson in reference to improving the Mount Michael road." PLANTING RESERVES. Mr M. Fitzgerald wrote making an offer for planting the reserve near Fairlie Creek. The offer was declined, and it was resolved that tenders be called for the planting. Proposed by Mr Tripp, seconded by Mr Mackay, and carried—" That as far as practicable under existi.ig contracts no trees but those of the gum and wattle tribe be planted at present." NEW WORKS. Resolved —" That tenders be called tor cross-ploughing thirty acres of the reserve at Fairlie C reek ; also for shingling part of the Boundary road." ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £383 Is 5d were passed for payment, and the Board then adjourned.
