PRESBYTERIAN SABBATH SCHOOL.

On Sunday last the usual half-yearly presentation of prizes to the scholars attending the Presbyterian Sabbath School took place in the Church. Notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather the children attended to the number of about one hundred and fifty , and parents and friends were largely represented. The President (Rev. Mr Gordon) presided, and after the opening hymn was sung be engaged in prayer, and delivered an appropriate and impressive address to teachers and scholars. Several pieces out of the Canterbury Sunday School Books were very nicely sung by the children under the directorship of Mr Edmonds, whose success with the children in this branch of the service was undoubted—the President remarking that great progress had been made in this direction since last meeting. Miss Blyth presided at the harmonium with her usual ability. The prizes were then handed to the successful competitors by the President, who addressed each in suitable words. Mr Gordon then called upon Mr Black to come forward, and addressing him said that he had been asked by the children to perform a duty, which although pleasing in one sense was painful in another. Ho bad been asked by them to present him (Mr Black) with a valuable photographic album, as a mark of their esteem and affection for him as their Superintendent, and also to express their regret at his leaving the district, having all recognised what good service Mr Black had rendered the Sunday School, and to the Church generally. What would be their loss would, however, be a gain to the place to* which he was going. Subjoined is a bst of the prizetakers : Class 1 (Boys) —Teacher, Mr Black. Archibald Russell, teacher’s prize, for proficiency in Bible questions. Prize. Mrks.
