TIMARU HARBOR BOARD.
At. the meeting of the above Board held last Thursday a letter was read from, the Marine Department requesting the Board to take steps to prevent disasters in com* pliance with the evidence of nesses. It was resolved to inform the department that the steps had already been taken. THE TOQ BOAT. The ad visibility of getting a tug boat was discussed at some length. c Captain Bascand, the Harbormaster, said that three times the work might be done with a steam launch, and mentioned
such vessels as ho thought would suit. A tug boat would be quite safe inside the breakwater. A committee appointed to Consider the question recommended that a steam launch should be hired and an order given to build a 45 to 60-horse power tug in England for the port. The report was adopted after some discussion. mb J. andebson’s claim. With regard to Mr J. Anderson’s claim of £78117s 6d, the Board declined to pay more that £SO0 f as the crane was not constructed according to plans and specifica - tions. THE LATE WBECK. The Committee of Inquiry into the late wrecks recommended that ±,300 should be given to the widow of Captain Mills, and a lifeboat crew organised. The report was adopted. THE ENGINEER’S REPORT. The Engineer reported that considerable damage had been done to the unfinished part of the breakwater ; that a good deal of plant had been washed away, but the finished work had sustained no injury. THE HARBORMASTER’S REPORT. A long report, suggesting many alterations, was read from the new Harbormaster. All the suggestions contained in it were adopted. Accounts to the amount of £1425 7s 8d were passed for payment. Ihe meeting then adjourned.
