Arabi Pasha made a speech tb-day, ■in which he openly boasted ;that the, Sultan of Turkey had decided~to depose Tewfick Pasha, and enthrone Prince Halim in his place. : The panic among the Europeans, owing, io the critical state of . the country, increasing, and there has already been a considerable exodus, from this and other towns to Alexandria/ '* . English and French Ambassadors, have addressed a jomt note to the Porte requesting that Arabi Pasha, the leader of the Nationalist party in Egypt, and his chief associates in the Agitation, should forthwith be summoned by the Sultan to Constantinople,, The Turkish ironclads stationed in the Bosphorus are now engaged in coaling. it is believed it is the intentioa o the Porte to despatch them at once to Alexandria. . . May 31. It has transpired that Lord I Dufferin, the English Ambassador, and the Marquis He Noalles, the French Ambassador, have requested, the - Sultan to make a declaration in favor of Tewdck Pasha remaining on .the, Egyptian throne. ‘. r, London, May 31’(night.) It has transpired that' the" "French Government in its recent communication with regard to the position’oh affairs in Egypt, has suggested that a conference of the Powers should he held at'Stamboul/with the view of effecting a settlement of the present political disorder in ■the Regency, on the basis of the statu' quo, and the British Government has intimated its acceptance of the proposal.
