MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Board was held in the Road Board office on Friday, the 19th inst. PRESENT. The Hon J. B. A. Acland (Chairman), Messrs 0. G. Tripp, J. Hc-ney, E. Mackay and G- J. Dennistoun. CORRESPONDENCE. The correspondence for the month was read as follows: From the Geraldine County Counci in reference to the advisability of the several Road Boards in the County striking a rate in order to obtain the subsidy to defray the expenses of the hospital and charitable aid. Resolved—" That this Board will be willing to sfcnlve a rate not exceeding sixpence in the £ in the event of the other Boards doing the same." Resolved—" That a letter be written to the Colonial Secretary stating that difficulties have arisen with the Survey Office on account of the proclamation of Febmaiy 21st, 1878, which is treated by the Gove-'nmeut as a nullity. The Board have recently had a mp.p made by the Survey Office which includes the additional area which was purported to be given bythat proclamation, and have received a letter from the Chief Surveyor showing that so long as that proclama-
tion is unrevoked, the office will insist upon treating this district as therein described. The Board would therefore
j request the Government to take immediate steps to i.emedy the above." From Mr W. R. Keay, calling the attention of the Boaid tp the storm water depositing silt an section 25370 at feherwood Downs, and requesting that the matter be attended to. The Overseer was directed to attend to the same. .Prom the Mount Cook Rpad Board with reference to the survey of a short length o? connecting road on the west s'dc of the Opihi, stating that the Board cannot consent to bear the whole cost of survey, as the road in question is entirely for the benefit of the ratepayers of the Mount Peel distict."
Resolved—" That as the road is outside of the Mount Peel district the Boaid must, although the amount is small, decline to paj any portion of the cost of survey."

ing machine. The Boa-*a declined to sell the ma-
chine. From Messrs J. and 8. Wilson calling attention to the state of the road round Mount Michael, and asking that I something may be done to make it passable during winter. The Overseer was directed to give notice to the contractor to proceed with metalling the road W'thout delay. From the Geraldine Road Board, enclosing account for half cost of work done on the Rangitata station road. The clerk was directed to return the account, and call the Geraldine Board's attention to the Mount Peel Board's letter of the 20th February, declining any further responsibility for work done j on the road. From the Hon. J. B. Acland, asking for leave of absence from the meettings of the Board during the session of Parliament. The request was granted. APPOINTMENT OF SOLICITOR. Resolved—" That in consequence of the dissolution of partnership of the firm of Messrs White and Jameson, Mr J. W. White be appointed solicitor to the Board." INSTRUCTIONS TO THE CI/3UK. The clerk was directed to write to the Geraldine County Council stating that as the Mount Peel Board is unable to come to any agreement with the Levels Road Board with respect to building a stock bridge over the Opihi river, they would request the Council to construct the bridge under clause 85 of the Public Works Act ; also to write to the Council suggesting the necessity of appointing a collector of the dog-tax in the neighborhood of Woodbury and Peel Forest, as at present the collector is never to be seen in the district. ACCOUNTS. After passing accounts to the amount of £303 6s 9d, the Board adjourned.
