ENGLISH AND FOREIGN. London, May 13. 'J In the House of Lords this evening Earl Granville, referring to the present position of affairjs in Egypt, stated that
England and France had mutually decided upon the line of action which shefcld be taken in certain contingencies, buWis lorship hoped that peace and * would yet he secured to that country without resorting to force of arms. A containing blasting powder was discovered by the police last night on the side of the Mansion House. No trace has yet been obtained of the perpetrators of the intended outrage.

The first match of the Australian cricketers in England was commenced today at Oxford, against an eleven of the local University, The weather was fine and there was a lively wicket. The Australians went in first, and their innings closed for 362. At the close of-the day's play the Oxford eleven had two wickets down for five runs.

It is now definitely known that the Khedive has the support of a large section of the people, and also of the Porte, in the present difficulty with Arabi Pasha and the nationalist party. /'May 15. It has transpired tha>4he leaders of the Chamber of Notables are endeavoring to mediateytfetween the Khedive and the Mimdwy ; His Highness is, however, temporising, and the situation is practically unchanged.
