IRISH AFFAIRS.

In the House of Commons today the Right, Hon W. E,- Glads ton e ( i ntrp d u ced his Bill,,providing,, means; for. the better, repression of crime in Ireland. The salient features of the measure are as follows : —The appointment of a Commission of Judges to try cases, ■ without juries in disturbed districts.; domiciliary visits by the police ; expulsion from Ireland of foreigners who may be considered dangerous, and the summary conviction of night prowlers. The Executive also to he invested with the widest powers for dealing, with illegal societies, meetings and inflammatory .journals. The operation of the measure is to extend over a period of three years. The Bill was read a first time; this, afternoon. , The Parnellite members consider the measure unnecessarily stringent, and inveigh against it in'strong ternls. May 12.
The, London Press generally approves of the provisions of the Blip introduced by Mr Gladstone for the adoption ■ of, repressive measures in Ireland.
Mr Parnell is now under police protection in consequence of a threatening letter which lie has received in regard to Ms action in supporting the Irish policy of the Government.
