THE NATIVE MEETING.
There are about 1000 Natives at the Kfug Meeting, but nothing has yet been done. The King is waiting for the arrival of a chief named Topia. There is a rumor afloat that the late Sir Donald Maclean offered the King a bundle of bank notes . a foot high, that the King only took five of them and told Sir Donald to keep the balance for him. The King is under the impression that this money is out at interest, that it is increasing and that he can get it whenever he likes. He appears to be pretty well under the control of his councillors, as in reply to some Europeans he has said that be knows it would be to his advantage to come to terms with the Government, but that be has to conform, with the wishes of his council. He also added that as soon as he has converted one half Of them to his own policy the first converts had gone back to their own way of thinking again so that he had to begin the conversion de novo.
