THE EDUCATION BOARD.
At the meeting of the above Mr Belfield was elected re-elected Chair man, and stated that he had confirmed the following appointments :Mr Thomas, Master of the Orari School; Mr Harlock, Kingsdown School ; Miss Fergusson, Upper Otaio school ; and Miss Wilkinson as mistress of Waiiti School. Mr Wakefield was appointed to a seat on the High School Board of Governors, vacated by the resignation of -the Bee Mr Barclay. It was agreed to sell some sections belonging to the in Waimate tor the purpose of raising funds to build a new school. A Committee consisting of the Chairman, Dr Foster, and Mr Wakefield was formed to consider the amende ment of scholarships regulations. The resignation of the Temuka School Committee was discussed. Mr Davis waited on the Board to ask advice as to what course he and Mr Bolton should take, and after a long discussion it was resolved —“ That so far as the Board is advised of the facts it is of .opinion that the acceptance of Mr Harrop’s resignation by the Committee Was invalid, and that Mr Harrop is therefore still a member of the Committee. Further, that as the Board has no power to accept the resignations of members of a Committee, Messrs Hayhurst, Mackay, Mendelson and Bussell also remain members of the Temuka Committee. It was also resolved—“ That three months’ notice be given to Mr Mclntosh to terminate his engagement as Head Master of the Temuka School. and that steps be taken in the usual way to fill the vacancy.” A request signed by 28 residents of Kerry Town for a new school in that district was received, and the Secretary was instructed to report on the matter. It was decided to call for tenders for repairing Winchester school.
