MR POSTLETHWAITE AND THE GOOD TEMPLARS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —ln your issue of Thursday appears an account of a tea party, under the auspices of the Good Tempted but where it was held does not appear. Not that it matters much, .but what surprises me is that our representatiae should have figured there, snd told the society that he had been connected with the cause at Home. It is a pity that Mr Postlethwaite did not show himself in his true colors before, for I venture to say that had he done sohad it been known that Mr Postlethwaite oould have associated himself with Good Template—be never would have repre sented (Greialdine in Parliament. It is painful to reflect that one who appears in t o many respects a gentleman should even hhve found it necessary to take a teetotallers pledge. I would greatly have preferred remaining in ignorance of this, as I find it is so difficult now to think of the man without the horrid picture presenting itself of a vice at the sight of which human nature recoils. How much more manly, how much more noble would, the chosen representative of an important constituency asyear as a man wfio could make use of the goed tilings of life without abusinp them.—lam, etc., An Elector.

[The insinuations contained in this letter are unwarrantable, but as they appear to us to be written as a joke we publish them. A man can easi y be a good Parliamentary representative, and a promoter of temperance at the same time. —En. T. L. ]
