MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Board was held in the Road Board office ? Peel Forest, on Friday, the 17th inst. MEMBERS PRESENT, ' ■ Messrs G. J Dennistonn, J. Heney and R. Mackay. In the absence of the Chairman Mr G. J. Dennistonn was voted to the chair. MINUTES. The minutes of the last annual meeting were read and confirmed TENDERS. Tenders for the undermentioned coiiracts were opened and considered: No i—Metalling main road, Peel Forest, James Proudfoot, £97 Is 6d ; Joseph Whamm, £B9 10s ; John Sullivan, £B4 (accepted). No 2 —lmproving Eugene’s cutting, T. Hills, £l6 10s ; James Proudfoot, £l6 ; Alexander O'Neil, £l3 10s ; Morris Lawlor, £l3 5s ; Daniel Guldan, £lO 15s (accepted). Renting reserve at Peel Forest, George Jenkins, £3 5s (accepted). CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read and considered ; From the Geraldine County Council enclosing copy of a resolution relative to the proposed stock bridge over the Opihi river, to the effect that the funds of the Council are not sufficient to make the bridge, and recommended that proposals be made to the Levels Road Board for the construction of the bridge. Resolved—“ That the Levels Road Board be written to offering to erect a sheep bridge across the Opihi if the Levels Road Board will agree to pay half cost on the same in equal yearly instalments extending over three yeers, the unpaid instalments bearing interest at the rate of five per cant.” From the Geraldine County Council, stating that at present the whole cost of
maintenance of Hospitals and Charitable is borne by and derived from sub- ■“ in consoquenc; of rates received from rhe Levels and Tenuika Road Boards and that this being unfair the Council would suggest that the Road district strike a rate. i'.ic-, ousideration of the .natter was deferred to a full meeting of the Board. From the Mount Cook Road Board i.i reference to erecting a sheep bridge across the Opuha river at Sherwood Downs, and also over the Opihi at Fairlie Creek, and stating that they will oontt ribute £l5O towards the constiuction of an oidiuary. footbridge over the Opihi at tcc end of the Allandale road, but in the opinion of the Board the construction of any kind of bridge over the Opihi river is unnecessary. Resolved Board wi 1 agree to pay half cost of a footbridge of such design as mty be agreed upon, and that the Engineer to the Mount Cook Board be asked to neat. the 0.. rseer to the Mount Peel Board to determine the site, etc.” From the Levels Road Board containing information in reference to road roller. From the same forwarding a copy of the Levels District map. From Mr Thomas Blair requesting the Board to improve Tripp’s cutting. The Overseer was directed to report at next meeting. From Mr Thomas Jeffcoate, requesting to have the road form id from the Spur road to section 28443. The Overseer was directed to call for tenders for the work. From Mr F. Newman asking the Board to provide timber for a culvert across the drain in front of his premises. The request was granted—the culvert to be built according to the Overseer’s directions. From the Ouief Surveyor returning the plan of the diversion of road between secuons 9549 and 18836 for correction. The Clerk was instructed to forward the plan to the Surveyor to have tUe necessary information plotted thereon. Resolved— “ That the Clerk write to the Minister for Public Works requesting that the Fairlie Creek railway line be completed with as little delay as possible.” After passing accounts to the amount of £595 9s 4d the Board adjourned.
