Bankers: The Colonial Bank of New Zealand. Solicitors : Messrs Sievwright, Stout and Co. Brokers : Ritchie, Barlleman and Co.; and W H Quick. This Company is projected for the purpose of taking over and carrying on the well known and old established easiness of the Red Lion Brewerv, which has been successfully carried on by Mr Maurice Joel for the last IS years. •* It is not, anticipated that any further calls than as above stated will require to be made, as Mr Joel will leave, at the option, of the Directory, £15,000 of the purchase, money on secured debentures of the Company, for a, term of seven years, bearing interest at seven per cent per annum, and he will take 20,000 shares, which will leave 40,000 shares for distribn'ion. Ho will a’so undertake the management for two years. An agreement hrs been entered into between Mr Joel and the Provisional Directors to the above effect. The Red Lion Brewery has always maintained a big'. - , reputation since its establishment in 1862, and has taken more prizes than any other in the colony, and the beer is consumed extensively in both Islands. Taking the average profits of the.last ten years as a standard, the business shows with the rents of the properties and interest of loans, a profit of 18 per cent per annum on £30,000 (the sum proposed to be called up), verified, by Messrs William Brown and A. Bartleman, accountants, as per their certificate below. The profitable nature of carefully managed brewing companies is well known ; and it mav !be safely said that this investment will constitute one of the most lucrative of its kind- in the co’ony. The Ibrewery land consists of 1 acres 27 poles (freehold) having frontage to Gr.eat King and George streets, Dunedin, and contains a well, affording a never failing supply of the best water for brewing in the colony. Upon this land are erected the substantial and well constru-ted brewery buildings, consisting of brick and stone mashing and storage premises, large brick and stone cellar, stone fermenting rooms, stone rr.althonse and kiln, brick and,- stone bottling stores, and brick stables, together with fixed plant of the most modern and improved construction, with brewer’s residence, offices, and other premises, which, with the goodwill, extensive connection, and business of the proprietor will be taken over at the price of £17,000. The other properties, consisting of freehold and leasehold hotels, loans to hotelkeepers (secured), stock of beer, materials, barley, and malt, good book-debts, loose plant, and furniture and stock in hotels, will be taken at a price to be ascertained by valuation. The total purchase money is estimated to amount to £40,000,As the business has been a profitable one to Mr Joel, the Provisional Directors can with confidence recommend it as a safe and sure undertaking to investors, and one capable of much further development. The large interest retained by Mr Joel in the business is a guarantee of bona fides and the success of the Company; Ap'dications for shares may be lodged with the Brokers or with the Colonial Bang of New Zealand, Dunedin, and its branches throughont the colony. The Share List will he closed on the 6(b April, 1883. Accountants’ Report. At the request of M? - Maurice Joel we have examined the profit and loss account in his books for a period of TO years, em bracing the years 1872 and 1881 inclusive, and extracted therefrom all coedits and debits arising from ordinary trade'transactions, and we find- that the-results pirn --very - evenly throughout, the -pßri«d> g%ad: -t-Vat-without l taking into account the rental pf .tenements, at preset t vacant. The average of the" trade - profits, less trade expenses and bad debts, added to present rents and interest, produce a net. result equal; to 18 ner;, cent, on £30,000. ■ 5 WILLIAM BROWN.
