: the question of Mr Bradlaugh's admis- ='* sion again came up for consideration, .'l. in view of that gentleman's re-election for Northampton. Sir Stafford NorthJ cote renewed his opposition to the mission of Mr Brad laugh, and an amendment to the motion before the < House was then introduced by a Liberal member, to provide for tha modification of the existing statute, so as to make it optional on the part of newly ejected members to swear the oath or make an affirmation. The debate continues .
In the House of Lords today a Bill requiring that members of Parliament shall make a declarati m of their belief in God/was introduced by Earl Ridesdale, and read a first time. Mr Miles, a Conservative candidate, •was elected today for Malmesbury. vice Mr W. Powell. Edwin James, the well-kngwri exQ.C., who some years ago'was disbarred, is dead.

Intelligence is to hand from Morocco that a severe conflict has taken place in Figreiz, a town near the Algerian frontier, between bodies of Moorish soldiery and Fiench troops. No information as to the cause of tae encounter or its result has yet been received. Irish Judges of Assize, in their addresses to juries at the opening of the Courts yesterday, ugain took occasion to lament the alarming continuance of agrarian crime in Ireland, and the fact that in many instances the perpetrators of outrages remain undetected. Telegrams are to hand announcing that Mr Evans, special correspondent of the Manchester Guardian, has been arrested at Ranausa for alleged collusion with the Dalmatian insurgents. He Hs now confined in gaol. Paris, March 8. Telegrams are to hand from Tunis reporting that bodies of insurgents have recently committed several raids in various parts ot the country, and that a .provision train has been looted and a
number rf Italian and British subjects, who weie passeugors, killed. Berlin, March 8. The Prussian Parliament has rejected a Bid which was introduced"by the Government for enlarging the scope of the law of July 1880. A measure has been passed for the subordination of Protestant and Roman Catholic clergy to the State.

Melbourne, March 8. Earl Kimberley, Secretary of State tor the Colonies, has telegraphed to the Governors of Victoria and South Australia, expressing the Queen's cordial appreciation of the telegrams recently forwarded conveying congtatulations upon Her Majesty's escape. Final payments for the Australian Cup have been made by the owners of twenty-seven horses. Rew Zealand feeding oats are unchanged, at 3s 4d, milling oats have declined to 3s 6d ; wheat has fallen to 5s 6d per bushel ; barley has advanced to 4s 6d. Brisbane, March 8. The racing stud of Sir Joshua Bell has been sold for -€IO,OOO- - March 8. ft is announced that Mr Hook, of the Christchurch Museum, will be appointed Curator of the Adelaide Museum vice Mr Wateihouse, resigned. March 9. Tn connpetion with the recent disclosures of the conspiracy on the part of Hicks and Berber to defraud the Australian Mutual Provident Society and the Australian Alliance Company, proceedings have been taken against Mr Hortnn, who attested the signature of Weatherhead, and he has been arrested for collusion with Hicks and Barber.

(Per Pkess Association.) Auckland, March 9. Two seamen, George Anderson and John Sandstrom, for mutiny while in liquor on the brig Transport at Arata u. were sentenced to six months' imprisonment. Wangantji, March 9. The e'cction petition case, Ballance and others v. Watt, was concluded this evening, their Honors confirming the election and deciding against the petitioners wirh costs. Wellington, March 9. It is understood that His Excellency has forwarded to the commanders of t'.ie foreign squadrons or ships of war in the Australian waters invitations from the Mayor of Christchurch to the opening of the International Exhibition. An information has be. n laid against a member of the detective force in Wellington, on a charge of obtaining money under false pretences. The following message has been received by His Excellency the Governor from the Secretary of State for the Colonies :—Your message laid before the Queen. Her Majesty thanks New Zealand for congratulations and loyal wishes.
The Aiawata with the English mails leaves Auckland at 10 tonight, coming down the East Coast. The mail will arrive here on Sunday, and probably the Stella will be in readiness to take on the southern portion. Christchdrch, March 9.
The following was the telegram sent by the Governor to the Queen :—" The colony of New Zealaud, with hearty thankfulness, humbly congratulates the .Queen upon Her Majesty's .recent preservation from danger, and prayes that she may be long spared to reign over a loyal and united Empire.'* A man ramed Anthony evidently deranged, recently from Melbourne, astonished the people of Colombo street this afternoon by distributing bank notes for various amounts to passerp-by. He was subsequently arrested, when it appeared he had taken £125 out of the bank this morning and had given it all away. About £25 j was afterwards recovered . Invehcargill, March 9.
A large fire occurred at Gore at 9.20 this morning, by which Watson's Hotel and Haxton Beattie's Flexible Harrow Factory were destroyed, The insurances were —Watson's Hotel, in the Standard, £950 ; Haxton and Beattie's Factory, in the Transatlantic, £IOO ; in the Victoria, £SOO. Builders' risk on addition to Watson's, were in the New Zealand office for £IOC.
