TIMARU HARBOR BOARD.
At the meeting of the above Board, held last Thursday, the following resolutions were carried. "That in reply to the letter from 'ha Public Works Departmen! of date February 17th, 1882, she Board agrees to the plans submitted for railway improvements, as far as land south of tue Breakwater is shown, but as regards the claim to land north of the
Breakwater, it is objected, to because it is quite contrary to the arrangement made between the Minister of Publ c Works and the Board. Before agree ; ng to laud being taken on the south side, the Board must have an understanding that its rights will be recognised by the Department, and refer it to the letter of May 19th, as being a correct statement of matters between the Board a'td the Railway Department ; and that the Board ask the members for South Canterbury to attend to the rectification of the endowment clause in the Tijaaru Harbor Bill during the next session, and the interests of the Board generally." —"That tenders be called for the use of a steam tug, at per month, for three months from the Irst of April, to be advertised in Timaru, Wellington, Ohnstchinch, and Dunedin; offers to be in by March 25th ; a Committee, consisting of the Chairman, Messrs Sutter, Evans, Hall, Gray, and Moody, to have power to receive and deal with the applications." Captain Sutter moved— " That tenders be called for widening the wooden jetty its whole length by say 12 feet, and that McKenzie's contract be carried out to the same width ; tenders to be in by next meeting of the Board." Letters from the Engineer and the Harbor Master re reductions in their salaries, were daferred till next Board day.
