MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Board was held in the Road Board office, Peel Forest, ou Friday 17th inst.

Present— The Hon J. B. A. Aciand (Chairman), and Messrs R. Mackay, J, Heney, C. J. Dennistonn, and C. GTripp. Letters were read from the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, forwarding a statement of receipts and expenditure of the institutions under the control of the Board for ti e six months ending 31st December.

From the Geraldine County Council, asking for an estimate of the cost of the sheep bridge proposed to be built across the Opihi liver neap Raincliff.

The Overseer informed the Board that he had supplied the information asked for.

From the proprietor of the Temuka Leader, soliciting a continuance of the Boards advertisements. Resolved—Tliat the advertisements be inserted in the Temuka Leader, as formerly.” From the Chief Surveyor, in reference to the new line of road laid off through section 32668, and informing the Board that instructions have been given to lay off the continuation of the road through sections 24965 and 24966 when these sections are bomg surveyed From the same, returning the plans of diversion of roads at Raincliff and Sherwood Downs duly certified for the purposes of the Public Works Act. From Mr Wildam Morris, requesting permission to place gates across the road between sections 28368 and 28639 at Sherwood Downs.

The request was granted upon the usual conditions —that they be of light construction, easily opened and shut and to be removed at any time the Board may direct.

From Mr M. Lynch, requesting the Board to make an allowance for the metal put on the Mount Michael Valley road, as he had to pay for the same. Resolved—“ That the Board regret that they are unable to make the allowance asked for.”

From Messrs White and Jameson, intimating that the partnership hitherto existing between them had been dissolved, and that in future the business will be carried on by each separately, From Mr J. W. Wnite, conveying an opinion in reference to altering the course the water along the road at Peel Forest; also giving an opinion re leasing the reserve adjoining section 832 at Peel Forest. Resolved—“ That the Geraldine and lemuka Road Boards be asked if they will join with this Board in procuring a supply of ironbark piles.”

The Clerk was dh’ected to write to the Mount Cook Road Board asking if they have come to a decision with reference to building a sheep bridge across the Opihi river, the end "of the Albmdale road; also for building a similar bridge across the south branch of the Opuha, on the Clayton road. Resolved— “ That tenders lie called for metalling the main road in Peel Forest ; for improving Eugene’s cutting ; and for renting the reserve at Peel Forest for twelve months.” Proposed by the Chairman, seconded by Mr Dennistonn, and carried unanimously —“ That the Board taking in consideration to all the questions connected with

the road from the Bangitata station to Peel Forett, disclaim any liability for further repairs on that part within the Gerddine distrii t, and that notice be sent to th« Geraldine Hoad Board intimating that the Mount Peel Road Board will not make any further contributions towards the maintenance of the said road,” The Clerk was directed to forward the map of the Raincliff district to the Survey office to have the continuance of the road passing through section 22226 marked up and to have the roads on the south side of the Opihi river marked.

Accounts to tlie amount of £1216 14s 3d were passed for payment, and the Board then adjourned.
