A REVIVAL MEETING.

Mrs Hampton says the (Rangitikei Advocate), a comely pleasant woman, and a revivalist, is now holding services in Wellington, and the usual number of ‘•conversions” are faking place. This charming lady is remarkable for “ converting” young men —and old ones t<>. When in Ancklond she made an impression vp»i a giddy youth, who was charmed with her discourse, but was “ too utterly ’ entranced when she passed around among the congregation and eventnahy knelt by his side, whispering, if not “soft” things “ sweet” consolation in his ear. He readily accepted her invitation to go into another room, where they could talk unrestrainedly about h ; s soul. Poor fool ! her pleasant voice had beguiled him. In the ante-room to which the penitent adjonrnel, be knelt down anxiously awaiting the arrival of the fair evangelist. He hc; rd a soft footstep by his side, his every nerve twitching with delight at the approaching estacy of listening to her voice again. Presently some one whispered into Ids ear—“ Brother. how is your spiritual slatel” Imagine his disgust when he recognised the tones os belonging to a man whom he utterly detested —a man who was universally set down as a canting, sneaking hypocrite. The reaction was too great; he rushed from the room to prevent fainting, and sought “ spiritual” consolation of another k ; nd at the first hotel he came to. This is a true story, and in relating it we do not wish to say one word against Mrs Harapson personally ; but we do most emphatically protest against the humbug which sometimes accompanies ’‘revivals. ’’
