In trie land two shafts have been sunk. The main, or working shaft is Oft by oft wide, and is 32£t deep, from which coal has been raised from a seam 2ft thick. The shaft is timbered from the surface. The other shaft referred to (half a chain from the main shaft) is 7ft by 4ft wide and 45fc deep, and is well timbered, and has been sunk through two seams of coal of s£t and 4ft respectively on to a 2ft Gin seam. Eire clay is found in large quantities, and is pronninocd by competent authority to be eminently adapted for pottery and sanitary j. ij'es, gas retorts, fire-bricks, &c. The coal is easily obtained, and is of the finest quality for household and manufacturing purposes, and its superiority for the proiuetion'of gas and for steam purposes has ;een proved by reliable tests. As this coal is admitted to be areally good coal for steaming purposes, it is proposed to have constant supplies in depots," so that the public cun always get what they may require. Building "'.uone is found on the property, i.n;l marble within a few chains, of a very superior description, also abounds. The Building Stone is a fine white stone, easily worked, and does not disintegrate from exposure io weather, some quantity of this stone haring been used in the building of the Christchurch Cathedral.-
