THE WONDERFUL USES OF PAPER.
A correspondent of the Louisville Courier-Journal recently interviewed Mr Ross, manager of an' American Paper Manufacturing Company, who gave a remarkable, account of the varied uses to which paper can now be applied. His statement evoked the remark from the reporter —“ You can do almost anything with paper but eat it.” To this Mr Ross rejoined with an exclamation of surprise, “ Why I have eaten it, and liked it very much. I took a large amount of it prepared like mush, and ate it in soup and found it very palateable. I tell you you can make or do almost anything with paper. When I build another house I intend to build it from foundation stone to roof out of paper. We can make a house out of paper, and one that will last, for ever, .furnish it finely with paper furniture, make all the dishes, stoves, knives and forks, and all other articles in the house out of paper. I have frequently noticed and admired the CourierJournal building, and it might be somewhat strange when I state (hat a building just like it would be much more durable. The printing press, cases, type, and all the fixtures of the office could be made out of paper, and would be much cheaper than the ordinary ones, as well as more durable Another thing that can be made out of paper is a complete steam engine, which would do all the duties of a metal one and last longer. The fact of the matter is, that there is not an article that cannot be made and splendidly made out of paper. I think it is by far the most useful thing in the world. The time it takes to transtorm a linen fibre into a fine car wheel or other article is 29 hours. It will take some little time longer to make paper clothes and shoes.”
