LOCAL AND GENERAL.
Resident Magistrate’s Cottet.—Afc this Court yesterday, before S. D. Barker,, and J. Mendelson, Esq.’s, J.P.’s, the only civil case heard was that of S. Norton v. Steele — Claim £4 10s 6d. Judgment was recorded by default, with costs 7s. There were-no criminal cases set down for hearing. Licensing Cohht. —A quarterly meeting of the Licensing Commissioners, Messrs G-amack (Chairman), Barker, and Cox, waahold yesterday. The temporary transfer of the license of the C; own Hotel from Mr L. Tombs to Mr A. Stenning was confirmed. • The. police presented a very favorable of the hotels within the jurisdiction of the Commissioners, Opening of the Peimixivb Methodist Church —On Sunday last the newly-ereoted Church was opened for Divine service. Mr Dumboll,. of Timaru, preached morning and evening, and an open-air services was held in the afternoon near o : .u- railway station. Supreme Court. The half-yearly criminal session of the Supreme Court will commence to-day, at eleven am. The following are the eases set down for trial:—Andrew Taylor, stealing from the person ; John King, larceny as a bailee ; Henry Whitcomb, stealing from the person j Lewis Moses aaid Abraham Moses, arson; William Brown, sodomy ; Frederick Wi'liam Dunn, stealing from the Ship Hotel; John Tate, arson ; John Robins alias 11. Williams, forgery and uttering ; John Powell, stealing from, the person. Accide.vt9.--As Mr and Mrs Hayhurst jun., were driving from their farm along the Swamp Hoad to Church last Sunday, the horse slued at something, and bolted. After proceeding along some distance the occupants were thrown out of the t-mp, but luckily sustained no. injury.—Yesterday aft moon,, us. Dr Hayes and Mr Tavender were driving in a trap along the Mein Road,, the horse shied, and.the trap came in contact with another vehicle with such force- that both Dr Hayes and Mr Tavender were thrown out. Fortunately they were not much hurt, being only a little bruised, but, the horse sustained serious injuries, and it is-thought will not recover.
