The Promoters having had th> Terr vnlupble property (as described below) offered to ihem by the Proprietor, and having made fery satisfactory arrangements for the purphase p.r lease of the same, they hove determined to plac3 the property, and the advantages connected with it, before the Public, and to develop what, in their opinion must prove to be a most successful undertaking, and pne that will prove of immense advantage to the District of South Canterbury. A small amount of capital will be required to purchase the necessary 'machinery and to put the mine in good working order, so that the Company will be able to pay dividends shortly after starting. Large Lime Kilns are now in courss of erection close to the property. The particulars of the property are as follows : It is freehold, of 2(j acres in extent, the property of Mr George Meredith. In the land two shafts have been sunk. The main, or working shaft is 9ft by sft wide, and is 32ft deep, from which coal has been raised from a seam 2ft. thick. The shaft is timbered from the Surface. The other shaft referred to (half a chain from the main shaft) is 7ft by 4ft wide ar.d •1' de/p, and is well timbered, and ha« been r through two >e».lns of coal of sft- and •lft respectively on to a 2ft 6in seam. Fire {-■Lj is found in large quantities, and is proH u ;ced by competent authority to be eminently adapted for pottery and sanitary 1 i*'es, gaa retorts, fire-bricks, &c. The coal is easily obtained, and is of the finest, quality for household and manufacturing purposes, and its superiority for the production of gas and for steam purposes lias ceen proved by reliable tests.
