The particulars of the property are as follows : It is freehold, of 20 acres in extent,, the property of Mr George Meredith. In the land two, shafts have been sunk. The main, or working shaft is 9ft by sft wide, and is 32ft deep, from which coal has been raised from a seam 2ft thick. The shaft is timbered; from the surface. The other shaft referred to (half a chain from the main shaft) is 7ft by 4ft wide and 45ft de.-p, and is well timbered, and has been sunk through two seams of coal of sft and 4ft respectively on to a 2ft 6in scam. Pire clay is found in large quantities', and is pronounced by competent authority to be eminently adapted for pottery and sanitary pipes, gas retorts, fire-bricks, &c. The coal is easily obtained, and is of ths finest quality for household and manufacture ing purposes, and its superiority for the proauction of gas and for steam purposes has been proved by reliable tests. As this' coal’is admitted to be areally good coal for steaming purposes, it is proposed to have constant supplies in depots, so that the ' üblic Ciiu always get what they may require.
