In t:ie land two shafts have been sunk. The main, or working shaft is 9ft by sft v. ide, and is 32ft deep, from which coal has been raised fmm a seam 2ft thick. The sh >ft is timbered from |he Surface. The other shaft referred to (half a chain from the main shaft) is 7ft bj 4ft wide ard 45ft and is well timbered, and has been sunk through two seams of coal of sft and 4ft respectively on to a 2ft 6m seam. Fire clay is found in large quantities, and is pronounced by competent authority to be eminently adapted for pottery and sanitary pipes, gas retorts, fire-bricks, <fcc. The coal is easily obtained, and is of the finest quality for household and manufacturing purposes, and its superiority for the production of gas and for steam purposes has been proved by roliable tests. As this coafis admitted to be a really good opal for steaming purposes, it is proposed to flave constant supplies in depots, so that the üblic can always get what they may raquire.
