Large Lime Kilns are now in course of erection close to the property. The particulars of the property are as follows : it/ is freehold, of 20 acres in extent, the property of Mr George Meredith. In the land two shafts have been sunk. The main, pr working shaft is Oft by oft «ide, and is 32ft deep, from which coal has been raised from a seam 2ft thick. The shaft is timbered from the surface. The other shaft referred to (half a chain from the main shaft) is 7ft by 4ft wide and 45ft dc-p, and is well timbered, and has been sunk through two seams of coal of sft and 4ft respectively on to a 2ft 6in seam. Fire clay is found in large quantities, and is pronounced by competent authority to be eminently adapted for pottery and sanitary pipes, gas retorts, fire-bricks, &c. The coal is easily obtained, and is of the finest quality for household and manufacturing purposes, and its superiority for the production of gas and for steam purposes has been proved by reliable tests.
