GERALDINE COUNTY COUNCIL.

The ordinary monthly meeting of thisCouncil was hold yes'.erday in the offices of the Council. PRESENT, Messis Tripp (chairman), Clulee, Acton, Mendelson, Wilson, and Hardcastle. MINUTES. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. OOIU.3SPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read and considered : From Mr Fur- 1 , enclosing a cheque for £3, being the half registration fee for twelve dogs just imported by Mr Hamlyn, in accordance with the Act. From the Public Works office, Wellington, in reply to the Council's letter of 14th June, respecting the handing of the Rangi':afca bridge over to the Ashburton County Council, and stating that the same will be considered;'' From the Temuka Road Board, acknowledging the receipt of the Council's letter of May 17th, re the payment of £4OGt) to the credit of the Board on account of the Opihi bridge, and stating that the sum had been duly credited by the Bank of New Zealand. From the Chairman of the Levels Road Board, enclosing application fc*slaughtering license by James Sullivan, and asking ■ whether the issuing of such licences was* ) not legally the duty of the Road Board rather than of the Council. It was decided to draw the attention of the Board to the Slaughter-houses Act, 1877, section 23, and to the Amendment Act, 1879, section 3. SLAUGHTERING LICENSE. Mr William Essery's application for a slaughtering license was held over, the sanction of the Temuka Boad Board not having b-en obia'tieo' in writing. isL«:g.hau: rsoM iia'i'CJßNßUii.. A telegram wan received from Mr IVrnbnJl, the Member for Tirnaru, in reference to the Bangitata bridge as follows :—"From what I hear, Government not likely to interfere Bill. Fair trial has been given to pile-driving." RANGITATA BRIDGE. A letter was read from the Public Works Office, Wellington, to the effect Mr Blair had not made any report or remarks on Mr Higginson's letter to him of 10th April, 1880. It was decided to send a copy to Mr Wakefield and ask for the repoit Mr Blair has made in reference to the pile-drivirg at the Rangitata traffic bridge. THE RABBIT NUISANCE. The Chairman drew attention to the subject of the rabbit nuisances, stating that peeple generally were apparently ignorant of the stringent laws which existed in the matter. Mr Tripp then went on to quote the Act on the subject and drew particular attention to clause 35. He also stated that a fews years ago Mr Angus McDonald and his brother had turned out nine rabbits on the Rangitata Is'and, and since then 10,000 had been b'l'ed there. BRANDS OF STOCK SOLD BY AUCTION. It was decided to draw the attencion of Government to the necessity that exists for auctioneers being compelled to furnish brands of stock sold by them at auction sides. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £lB 2s were passed for payment. ADJOURNMENT. The Council then adjourned until next meeting day—Tuesday, August 9th.
