In theland two shafts havu been sunk. The main , or working shaft is 9ft by sft v>ide, and'is32ffc deep, from which coal lias been raised from it seam 2ft thick. The shaft is timbered from the surface. The other shaft referred to (half a chain from the main shaft) is 7ft by 4ffc wide and 45ft de.-p, and is well timbered, and has been sunk through two seams of coal of sft and 4ft respectively on to a 2ft 6in seam. Fire clay is found in large quantities, and ; s pronounced by competent authority to be eminently adapted for pottery and sanitary pipes, gas retorts, fire-bucks, &c. The coal is easily obtained, and is of thefinest quality for household and manufacturing purposes, and its superiority for the production of gas and for steam purposes has been proved by roliable tests.
