The bombardment of Sfax by the French war vessels has resulted in the partial destruction of the town. The Arabs are, however, still gathered in force in the neighborhood, and continue to show a determination to resist the French authorities, and a rebellious feelmcf is shown throughout the Kairwaun district
Auckland, July 11. The steamer Bowen arrived last night rom after a passage of twenty-seven days, with a cargo of teas for New Zealand. She brought no passengers. Dr Philson considered that the vessel had been long enough at sea for any disease to develop, and thought the vessel might be liberated, but he had no alternative but to order her into quarantine. He has since telegraphed to the Government advising her release. Later. The Government has ordered the health officer to admit the steamer Bowen to pratique, and the order for her release has gone to the quarantine station. 1 ' General discontent prevails here relative to the maladministration of the quarantine arrangement. The local Board of Health /resigned because its recomm3ndation, after mature consideration, were ignored at Wellington.

The first crushing from the Prospector's claim, Waihi, of five tons, is just io. The result is 220 z 17dwt of gold. Wellington, July 11.
At the Supreme Court, the case against Whitelaw, for the maltreating- of a lunatic patient, is proceeding. The case will probably extend over to-morrow.
Blenheim, July 11,
The body of a man, name unknown, described as being from 35 to 40 years of age, tall, with sandy beard and whiskers, ,vas fou'd on the banks of the Waihopai river, near Beuhapi station, yesterday afternoon. It is supposed that in attempting to cross he was washed down and drowned.

At the eivil sittings, Seaborn v. Bruce Standard, in which £SOO is claimed for alleged libel, was heard to-day, and resulted in a verdict for £25.
